Every time when I see young girls with a bottle of beer and a cigarette, I am in horror. These little girls think it's cool and beautiful. They think that the way they look older. They want them to pay attention to older wealthy men. They do not realize that people have a negative opinion. The friendly, charismatic, bright segments of the population do not take these girls into their society. These girls do not realize that they are the future mothers. And if they have a way of life, they can not bear children. They ruin their health, they are ruining their lives. And when they realize it will be too late. Children, Youth errors can not be corrected. They can shape a lifetime. Take care of your health. Appreciate life. Think about the future.

Abbreviations and acronyms. Part One

My dear students,
We have recently discussed some abbreviations that are quite popular in internet chat and messages, so I want you to become little bit more familiar with some other expressions used in formal writing.

Many of them you already know, because they come from Latin and are common:
- e.g.  means "for example" and comes from the latin expression "exempli gratia"
- i.e. means "that is" and comes from "id est" and can be translated into Russian as "т.е"
- I guess everyone knows NB which means "note well" and comes from "nota bene"
- one of the most famous is AD which means "the year of Our Lord" , "Anno Domini" in Latin

The one used to count years after the birth of Christ is called BC "before Christ" and is pronounced as individual letters.
The same works for EU and ID that you definitely know
ASAP should be also pronounced that way and means "as soon as possible"

writing skills

My dear, once we have discussed an idea of a writing skills course, but we will hardly fit it in our timetable. So I'm going to write from time to time some useful information and maybe to drop few tasks realated to the topic.

Today's post is dedicated to punctuation marks:

So
this one "." can be either a dot at the name of a website or a full stop at the end of a sentence. Also a dot is a name of the mark over the "i" letter, so that's why there is an expression to dot the i, that I used as a title of my blog.
The next one "," is called a comma
":" is called a colon and this one ";"a semi-colon
"/" a slash
"-"  a dash in a sentence and a hyphon between two parts of the same word
"A" letter is called a capital letter

So hope you will use these terms during our classes,
good luck, your k.
